The Rangers

There’s something about this photo that makes me smile. I think it’s the idea that the humans are stuck on the inside and Ruby the dog is free on the outside.

Meet the Rangers. Jodie has the most beautiful and fun personality, and has one of the kindest hearts around. We met many years ago when we both worked at a National Portrait Studio.
Jodie is one of the most social people I know too, so I was curious to see how she was going through these times. It was a bit rough, but she has always had a great outlook at life.
During this time there was also a crazy influx of butterflies and we were sharing photos and she certainly found some beauties. We certainly caught a few as well. I’ve shared one of her photos below.

Also I want to mention that to have a bit of fun and a laugh during these times Jodie did her own Bin Isolating Photos (here is the link for those who don’t know what I am talking about) and with her permission and her photos, I can share them here :) I’ll share them throughout the story!

How would you describe what is happening right now in COVID-19 times?
Very scary times to be living in, and I therefore I completely understand the reason for self quarantining, when it is possible.

How has this affected your family?
As a sole trader I have experienced a 50 percent loss in my business. It has also impact the jobs available to my husband in Construction, seeing him unemployed for a few weeks.

What is one thing that has surprised you about this event, positively or negatively?
It surprises me the number of people in the community who choose to ignore the seriousness of the virus. And these are often older citizens , not young ones.

What is one thing you will always remember about this time?
A much quieter life. Strange times for a very social person, but on a high note, quality family time is being enjoyed.

What do you think is really important right now?
I think we should all try to stay home when possible.

What have you done to stay in touch with others?
Extra emailing , FaceTime chats and phone calls.

What is one thing that you miss right now?
Our social life.

What have you been doing to keep yourself and your family busy?
A little back yard blitzing that has seen us all involved.

Does this scare you?
Yes. This really scares me for the vulnerable and for our economy.

What is one good thing that you hope will happen after this is all over?
I hope everyone will stay kinder, because I think a lot of people have been generous and thoughtful.

What is the first thing you are going to do when it is all over?
Catch up in person with family and friends.

Lilly – High School
How have you maintained your friendships?
FaceTime , phone calls and group texts.

What’s your thoughts on home schooling?
I would prefer to go to school.

What do you think about the Corona Virus?
For life to return to normal with no one I love having contracted the virus.

What is one thing you miss doing right now?
Socialising with friends.

What is one thing you are enjoying about this time?
Family time.

Jodie: In a nutshell…
We are living in truly uncertain, worrying times.
My wish is for my family and friends and fellow citizens to stay safe and well. I hope the more fortunate continue to help those who are most vulnerable, or suffering life-changing personal or monetary losses.
I also hope the economic impact is as minimal as possible for small and large businesses, for those individuals who have lost their jobs, and our wonderful country as a whole .

Year 12’s in 2020

We were going to do some photos for Emma’s Year 12 Formal, but it was cancelled. We are not even sure if there will be a formal this year:(
One of the things I learnt during this project was what a rough time the year 12’s were having here in QLD.
I learnt that back in 2008 they were the first year to do the compulsory prep year. They were the first group of Year 7’s to go into the High School system. And they are the first year to do the ATAR examinations (old OP system). Quite a lot to take in. Oh and I have heard quite a few are a bit upset they can’t get their learners (that’s another story).

So now I have finished rambling on… I asked Emma if she would mind answering some questions on her thoughts of this situation.
Some of it could be quite different now as she has had a week back at school.

How have you maintained your friendships?
I think social media and video calls etc have really prepared us for the distancing that we have seen. Maintaining friendships have been hard, but social media is really helpful.
How have you found Home School / Online Schooling?
Online learning is very difficult being in grade 12 as there is a lot riding on my last year of schooling, especially with the new ATAR syllabus and the complications on that. Home schooling is going to be tricky and there are lots of questions that have been raised on how we are going to deal with the last year.
Whats your thoughts on the Corona Virus?
Covid-19 is part of the coronavirus family that affects the lung and throat, it is highly contagious and lighter than air. It certainly is a scary virus that has literally gone viral and worldwide.
It has made so many people change their daily lifestyle and implementing social distancing laws and regulating the amount of people that you can see in that space of time.
What are you missing at the moment?
I really miss being able to see my friends and spend time with people outside of my immediate family. I miss being able to laugh and relax with them and I think that is something we won’t take for granted for a really long time.
What have you enjoyed during this time?
I am enjoying the time that everyone is not rushed and relaxing a little. It’s changing the mindset of a lot of people and motivating people to do things that they would never do. I’m enjoying the time to work on different mindsets such as growth mindset and keeping positive.
