Engagement – Clare and Simon

By | couples, photography, portraits, Uncategorized, video, weddings | No Comments
So 13 years a photographer and I had never done the photoshoot I had wanted to at Crows Nest National Park. Until three months ago, that is.
Considering it’s basically next door to Toowoomba this is crazy so I’m stoked we could finally do it.
Clare and Simon “like low-key hiking in national parks, packing picnics to enjoy on the way. Trips to the beach usually include detours along the ‘scenic route’ to check out local heritage hotspots”
And Crows Nest Falls was on their list. And mine! So when we met up for our engagement shoot call out, it was decided pretty quick.
Low key hiking was put the test, though, as just prior to sunset we decided to hike up to the top lookout. Not a long hike, but this was in July, when the sun sets at basically 5pm and takes less than 30 seconds to do so. Luckily we had adventurous head lamps!

I really like engagements. As much as I like weddings. They are separate things to us, not a practise run. A time in life (and a photoshoot if that’s your style, it’s ours!) to enjoy on it’s own merits. Unless you’re aiming for a cool Offbeat Bride feature, then chances are you won’t go rock climbing, or national park scrambling or dirt bike riding on your wedding day. But you can for an engagement shoot! And that’s why I love them. I get to have adventures I’ve never had before and you get to have an awesome adventure documented with the person you love.

Shannon and Dan’s Caloundra Engagement Shoot

By | photography, portraits, Uncategorized, video, weddings | No Comments

A couple of months ago we put a call out for some newly engaged couples to work with us on a personal photographic adventure. We wanted to create the ultimate heirloom, capturing as many different ways as possible who someones essence is.

And we want to see how much we can capture the excitement of being newly engaged. When Anna and I became engaged, we felt like we had invented something awesome that no one else had discovered (obviously people had been engaged before, but that’s how it felt to us)

Shannon and Dan answered that call out being newly engaged and loving outdoor adventures.

“We love to do things spontaneously and also make great memories. We love going to our special place in an open cave on the edge of a cliff in Caloundra and we love spending time with our family’s and little fur-baby. Most of all we just love each other’s company and it doesn’t matter what we are doing, as long as we are together we are making the most of everything.”

For us, video and photography are totally complimentary and we are at our best when we can combine the two in one session. We really feel that a combination of photographic tangibles, digital images and video is the ultimate collection to showcase a photoshoot.

An awesome photo should stand on its own, but CONTEXT is everything now; such a big part of what makes a photo special. We all use hashtags, location check ins, and typed descriptions for our Facebook/Instagram photos to really connect our photos to our viewers, whether it’s our daughter’s birthday party or a selfie in front of the Chrysler Building.

We’ve always done this – look through your grandmother’s photos and on the back will be a hand written note saying when, where and who of each particular photo.

So we want to see exactly how much context we could add. I love quotes and memes on social, but how much more would it mean if those quotes were from the people involved?

We want to be photographers that view engagement shoots as more than a practice for the wedding photos (seems like such a missed opportunity)

How did we go? – Kris :)

Jason and Samantha – Ocean View Estate Wedding

By | photography, weddings | No Comments

On the 7th of February, 2015, Sam and Jason got married.
The venue was the Ocean View Estate, a winery on Mt Mee and the ceremony was at 4pm, and in the valley the light was fantastic.

The ceremony itself was by a lake with a gazebo, surrounded by vineyards on one side and epic mountains on the other and there are beautiful trees and gardens.
They wanted their wedding simple and elegant. black and white with a touch of silver and natural, in the moment photos. They had 70 guests and 80% were family. Most of their friends were in the wedding party!

It was a most excellent day :)

Kris
